Attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are two common learning disorders that present with neurological, behavioral and learning difficulties. ADD/ADHD involve an imbalance in the brains frontal lobe that is responsible for decision making, staying on task, executing a plan, choosing right from wrong and processing sensory information. Individuals with ADD/ADHD can attend to highly stimulating or interesting tasks but are not able to attend to the mundane or boring tasks. Traditional approaches have used sensory stimulating medications to allow these individuals to stay on task. At HDPT, we combine our MARS protocol with sensory integration-based approaches to improve concentration, decisiveness, academic performance and overall social interaction in individuals with ADD/ADHD.
